Remiio Help

General tips and tricks for Remiio

Remiio is a simple music player designed for people with dementia and their caregivers. This guide will help you understand each feature.

▶  Playing Music

This is how the button appears in the app.

The main screen has one large button. Tap it to start playing music. Tap it again to pause. That's all the listener needs to do!

The song title and artist are shown at the top of the screen, along with a progress bar that shows how far through the current song you are.

Opening Settings

Tap the lightning bolt in the top-right corner of the main screen to open Settings. If a caregiver PIN has been set, you will need to enter it first.

🎵  Manage Randomized Songs

This is how the button appears in the app.

Open Manage Randomized Songs from Settings to choose which songs from your device are included in the playlist. Check the songs you want and uncheck the ones you don't.

⏮ ⏭  Playback Controls

This is how the buttons appear in the app.

These controls are available on the Settings page when playing local music:

  • Remove Current Song & Skip — Permanently removes the playing song from the playlist and moves to the next one. Use this if a song upsets or confuses the listener.
  • Previous / Next — Skip backward or forward through the playlist.
  • Reshuffle — Randomize the playlist order and start from the beginning.

You can also show the Previous & Next buttons directly on the main screen (see Advanced Settings).

📻  Radio Stations & Streaming Services

This is how the button appears in the app.

Remiio supports multiple streaming services. Open Radio Station from the Settings page to manage your saved stations.

Supported services:

  • TuneIn and iHeartRadio — free live internet radio. Search by station name or genre.
  • Spotify PRO 🧪 Beta — connect your Spotify account to browse and save your personal Spotify playlists. Requires a Spotify Premium subscription and the Spotify app installed and open on the same device.

Adding a station or playlist:

  • Tap Add Station to open the search page. Use the dropdown at the top to choose a streaming service.
  • For Spotify, tap Connect to sign in. Once connected, switch to My Library to browse your saved Spotify playlists, or use Search to find new content.
  • Tap 💾 Save next to any result to add it to your list.
  • Don't see your service? Tap the link at the bottom of the search page to view all available services and vote for new ones.

Managing saved stations:

  • Tap a saved station to start playing it. Each station shows a small icon indicating which service it belongs to.
  • Swipe left on a station or tap its ✕ button to delete it.
  • Enable Randomize streaming playlist to shuffle the songs in a streaming playlist each time it plays.

Free users can save one station; PRO users can save multiple stations and switch between them. A loading spinner appears on the main screen while a stream is buffering.

🎵  Spotify PRO 🧪 Beta

If you are a caregiver with regular access to this device, you can work through the setup steps and address any issues as they come up. If you will not have daily access to the device, we strongly recommend using a TuneIn or iHeartRadio station instead — these are stable, well-tested, and require no account sign-in.

Thank you for being an early tester — your feedback directly helps us improve Spotify support and future integrations. We truly appreciate your patience and enthusiasm!

🔑  Caregiver PIN

This is how the button appears in the app.

Set a 4–6 digit PIN so that only the caregiver can access Settings. Once a PIN is set, the lightning bolt will ask for the PIN before opening. To remove the PIN, enter your current PIN and leave the new PIN blank. This option is located in Advanced Settings.

💤  Sleep Timer

This is how the button appears in the app.

Set a timer to automatically stop the music after a chosen duration. This is helpful for bedtime — the music will gently stop on its own. A 🌙 moon icon appears on the main screen when a sleep timer is active.

  • Choose from preset durations (15 minutes to 2 hours), set a custom time, or select End of playlist to stop after the last song in the current playlist.
  • You can also choose whether the timer applies only this time or always starts automatically each time you press play.

📋  Playlists PRO

This is how the button appears in the app.

PRO users can create named playlists and choose specific songs for each one. Open Playlists from the Settings page to get started.

  • Create Playlist — Tap the ➕ Create Playlist button to add a new playlist.
  • Edit a Playlist — Tap a playlist to open it. From there you can rename it, shuffle the song order, or delete the playlist entirely.
  • Add or Remove Songs — Inside a playlist, tap the ✓ or ✕ button next to each song to add or remove it. Use Add All or Remove All for quick changes.
  • Reorder Songs — When viewing only playlist songs, drag the ≡ handle next to a song to rearrange the playback order.
  • Search — Use the search bar inside a playlist to find songs by title or artist.
  • Filter — Toggle Show only playlist songs to see just the songs currently in that playlist.
  • Shuffle When Playing — Turn on Shuffle when playing so the playlist plays in a random order each time.
  • Delete a Playlist — Swipe left on a playlist in the list, or tap Delete inside the edit screen.

Switch between playlists to suit different moods or times of day. This feature requires a PRO upgrade.

🎵  Select Playlist Button

This is how the button appears in the app.

You can show a Select Playlist button directly on the main screen. Tap it to quickly switch between All Songs (Shuffled), any of your playlists, or a saved radio station — without opening Settings.

Enable or disable this button in Advanced Settings under Main Screen Controls.

⚙️  Advanced Settings

This is how the button appears in the app.

Advanced Settings let you:

  • Set or change the caregiver PIN that protects access to Settings.
  • Control the Always On setting — keep the screen on at all times, or let it follow the system display timeout.
  • Change the visual theme — System, Light, Dark, or Nighttime (Nighttime requires PRO).
  • Choose the playback source (local music or a saved radio station) when both are available.
  • Show or hide extra controls on the main screen — Previous & Next buttons and a Select Playlist button.
  • Toggle Full Screen mode on or off (see below).
  • Restore a previous PRO purchase.

Device & Battery Notes

  • Always On mode (in Advanced Settings) keeps the screen on at all times. This is useful for keeping the play button visible but will increase battery usage. We recommend keeping the device plugged in when using this mode.
  • On devices with OLED screens, prolonged use of Always On mode may cause screen burn-in. Consider using the Nighttime theme (PRO) or turning off Always On when the device will be unattended for extended periods.
  • Full Screen mode hides the system status bar and navigation bar for a distraction-free experience. This can be turned off in Advanced Settings if the caregiver needs regular access to system controls.

Full Screen Mode

By default, Remiio hides the device's status bar and navigation buttons so the listener sees only the simple play/pause screen. This prevents accidental taps on system buttons that could navigate away from the app.

If you need regular access to system notifications, the back button, or the home button, you can turn off Full Screen mode in Advanced Settings. The change takes effect immediately.

Combined with a caregiver PIN, Full Screen mode creates a kiosk-like experience that keeps the listener safely within the app.

🚪  Exiting the App

When Full Screen mode is on, the device's home and back buttons are hidden. To exit the app:

  1. Tap the lightning bolt to open Settings (enter the caregiver PIN if set).
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Exit App.
  3. Confirm that you want to close the app when prompted.

The Exit App button is separated from other buttons to help prevent accidental taps. You can also turn off Full Screen mode in Advanced Settings to restore the system navigation buttons.

Tips for Caregivers

  • Set a caregiver PIN to keep the listener on the simple main screen.
  • Full Screen mode (on by default) hides system buttons for a kiosk-like experience. Turn it off in Advanced Settings if you need easy access to other apps.
  • To exit the app when in Full Screen mode, open Settings and tap Exit App.
  • Use the Nighttime theme (PRO) in dark rooms to reduce screen glare.
  • Remove songs that cause distress — they will not come back.
  • Create playlists (PRO) for different moods or routines.
  • Use the Select Playlist button or Previous & Next buttons on the main screen for easy access — enable them in Advanced Settings.
  • Use the Sleep Timer for bedtime listening so the music stops automatically. Set it to Always so it starts each time you press play.
  • The Always On setting keeps the screen on at all times, which increases battery usage. Keep the device plugged in. On OLED screens, prolonged use may cause burn-in.
  • If the listener only needs Play and Pause, hide the extra controls in Advanced Settings.

🔄  Replay Walkthrough Tour

This button is available inside the app. Tap it to replay the guided tour on the Main and Settings pages.
